The Blackburn & District Badminton Association will once again be organising the annual charity badminton tournament in honor of the former mayor of Accrington, John Culshaw.
This event will take place on Saturday 26th April 2014 and commence at 10.00am. It is open to any player within the area, whether registered with a badminton club or not.
Teams can be a mix of players of all standards and clubs, however entrants are expected to be know the rules of the game as this is a competitive event.
This event will be held at Hyndburn Leisure Centre, Henry Street, Church, Accrington, BB5 4EP thanks to the generosity of the Hyndburn Borough Council, who have made these facilities available.
The tournament which is handicapped is made up of teams of four players (two ladies, two men) who play a total of 8 games in each match (two mixed and two levels games each using rally point scoring). Teams will play several of these matches throughout the day depending on the number of teams in each pool.
Play will commence from 10am on the day and it is hoped that the finals of the event will be completed by 5pm. This is an enjoyable day where games will be played on a pools basis, meaning you will play lots of games against players of different standards.
When applying for entry to the tournament, teams should give themselves a ‘team name’ and advise the names of players, together with a contact telephone number. An entry fee of £20 (£5 per player) will be collected on the day of the tournament. If you enter and later can’t participate you will still be liable for full payment.
To enter please send the following details to claire.edmundson@hotmail.co.uk, quoting Your Team Name, Players Names, League the players are registered with (if applicable), Clubs and the league division (if applicable), Contact phone number

This year we are holding one cup competition for the league, 18 teams have entered this year.
The competition is a knockout and each cup week the teams will be handicapped accordingly.
All teams have a bye in the first round except Clithereo B who play Independents B and Clitheroe A who play St Philips, both matches to be played on 12 Dec 2013.
As decided at the AGM, each home team captain will receive a sealed envelope with the handicap inside, this is to be opened at the end of the match and the handicap added accordingly. If both teams have the same number of aces then the away team is deemed the winner.
All team secretaries will receive the draw for each week of the competition.

Hi folks hope your first games were enjoyable. Just some quick information for you and players.
The score sheets which you have received have an error regarding the 3rd mixed doubles. I believe you all know about it and have been informed to play the mixed double as they show on the score sheet.
The score sheet is being corrected to show the correct mode of play for the mixed doubles, as printed in the handbook.
Once this has been completed new score sheets will be forwarded to all teams for matches commencing 14 Oct.
If this all goes to plan then all teams should use the corrected score sheets from 14 Oct.
